A deadly combination of drought, on-going conflict and escalating food prices has placed over 13.3 million people in need of life-saving aid across Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti – an area known as the Horn of Africa. Over 2.5 million children under five are acutely malnourished and wasting away.
This is the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world today. It is more than a food crisis – it is a crisis for child survival.
The UN has declared a famine in six regions in Southern Somalia, officially indicating that malnutrition and child mortality rates are at emergency levels. In these famine zones, 750,000 people at risk of dying in the coming months – more than twice the number in July. There are concerns that the famine will spread across Southern Somalia in weeks.

Come check out the Médecins Sans Frontières Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City Exhibit at Garrison Grounds this weekend!
Today, 43 million people around the world have fled armed conflicts and are searching for safety. They are children, women, and men living in temporary shelters, camps, or shanty towns, struggling to survive in new and often hostile environments. Those who have sought refuge in another country are refugees, a status which entitles them to certain rights under international law.
Those who are seeking refuge within their own countries are officially called internally displaced persons (IDPs). They have fewer rights than refugees, yet make up almost two-thirds of the people around the world today who are seeking safety from armed conflict and violence.

Conservative Majority Government. Alright.
Election day is here! Make sure you take time out of your day to vote! Polls are open until 8:30pm
Remember that you are legally entitled to take time off work to vote, so take advantage of it
Hope to see everyone out there!
As Election day, or E-day as the politicians say, draws close I would just like to take the time to point out the number one reason why anyone in Canada should vote:
ALL of the shit ever produced by the United States of America is hitting the fan, and we need to get out of the way.
American politics, as much I would like to still stand behind Obama, is moving at crushingly slow pace when it comes to turning the country around, and the economy is forecasted to stay just about where it is (and possibly get worse).
Canada needs to get out from the shadow of our soon to be deadbeat, conservative neighbour and step it up.
It can all start as soon as you take the time out of your day and Vote on May 2nd. Get ready to Rock the Vote.
